This
is our first new window of the Millenium. It depicts St Benedict
Biscop who brought glass making to the North East of England.
St Benet Biscop's RC High School in Bedlington, Northumberland,
commissioned the window as part of their Millennium Celebration.
From top: The family, the extended family & the global
family (the group is standing on the curve of the Earth's
surface). They stand in the glow of the school's logo, the
St Cuthbert Cross signifying the school family.
Middle:
The Baptism and the Crucifixion of Christ. The landscape backgrounds
extend into each other to demonstrate continuity and wholeness.
Bottom: Benet Biscop's travels and activities. The
blowing of glass and his collection of manuscripts.
The
figure is between two trees, the cherry for good works and
the oak for endurance. They take the form of arches to represent
Jarrow and Monkwearmouth abbeys. School activities are hinted
at in the objects behind the figure; information technology,
science, sport, drama, music & literature. The window was
designed by Suzanne Stanley and executed at our Warkworth
studio ready for dedication by Bishop Ambrose on St Benet
Biscop's day on the 12th of January 2000.
